Nigel Cox Normandy Buildings Painting Guide
I started by spraying all the buildings with Chaos black to act as an undercoat and to provide some shading.
For the stone buildings and walls I used Foundry Rawhide 11A, followed by a heavy dry brush of Vallejo Stone 884, then a further dry brush with a mix of stone 884 + white + sand 847.
For the rendered large house I used the same technique as above for any exposed stonework, then for the rendered walls I used Foundry Boneyard 9A, followed by 9B, then 9C. For this I watered down the paint a little in order to blend the different shades and to give a more rustic feel.
For the internal wooden floors I used Foundry 13 A, B & C Spearshaft.
For the tiled roofs I used a heavy dry brush of grey 869 (with just a hint of blue) followed by a dry brush of light grey 990
I stuck the models to some 3mm thick mdf, I then made the cobbles from some Milliput rolled flat and sculpted with a shaped kebab stick. The dirt tracks were made using "no more nails". I stuck down the sand using watered down PVA.
I painted the ground work with a 50/50 mix of Sandtex Bitter Chocolate and Homebase Caramel (I buy the tester pots - a lot cheaper than using expensive model paints!). I followed this with a heavy dry brush of Foundry Base Sand 10A, then a lighter dry brush of 10B.
